Unlike Dysport® injections which affect frown lines only, Botox® can be used in a variety of locations around the face.
What is Botox® ?
Botox® Cosmetic is an injected prescription medicine that’s used to reduce facial lines and wrinkles, and to give a refreshed appearance. It’s a therapeutic agent derived from the bacterium, Clostridium Botulinum; also known as Botulinum Toxin Type A. The brand BOTOX® is produced in controlled laboratory conditions and given in extremely small therapeutic doses. Originally for the treatment of blepharospasm (eye spasm) and strabismus (misalignment of the eye), Botox® is now being tested as a treatment for several conditions associated with overactive muscle activity.
What happens during a Botox® treatment?
Botox® Cosmetic injections are quick, minimally invasive procedures. No anesthesia is required. Clients typical require a few injections per site to relax their lines and wrinkles. Common treatment areas include between brows, forehead lines, crow’s feet, and around the mouth. You can expect to see results within three to ten days after your treatment, and the visible results have been shown to last up to six months.
Will I look different after Botox®?
It’s important to work with technicians who are conservative, experienced and skilled artists. Dr. Evans and Dr. Lary are both experts at keeping your facial contours natural. Despite a marked improvement, receiving Botox® Cosmetic injections at evolé Mediclinic won’t make you look like you’ve “had work done.”
How does Botox® work?
- Botox® Cosmetic targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines and crow’s feet—the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years. Your provider will inject these muscles with Botox® Cosmetic to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will begin to notice a visible smoothing of your crow’s feet lines and frown lines between your brows.
- Botox® can be injected into facial muscles producing lines, temporarily reducing their activity. It works by blocking nerve signals that tell the muscles to contract. As the Botox®-injected muscles relax and soften, the lines they create diminish or disappear altogether. When muscle function gradually returns, these same lines and wrinkles will begin to reappear. Repeated Botox® treatments can often “train” the associated muscles to relax, allowing lines and wrinkles to become less severe over time. Administering Botox® only takes a few minutes and results can last for months.
