Get rid of those spider veins!
Sclerotherapy is a procedure to safely and effectively treat spider veins in your legs without the expense and downtime of surgery. If you’re unhappy with how your legs look, this treatment may be the perfect choice for you.
Sclerotherapy involves the injection of a specialized solution directly into your affected veins causing internal scarring inside the vein itself. This forces blood to move into healthier veins nearby, collapsing the superficial more visible veins. Your body eventually absorbs the treated veins into the surrounding tissue, leaving you with healthy-looking, smoother legs.
evolé Mediclinic uses Asclera®, an FDA approved, safe and effective for treatment of reticular and spider veins. Reticular veins—the green veins you see superficially—are actually “feeder” veins into the more noticeable purple/red spider veins. To get the very best results, we treat the “feeder” reticular veins first. This prevents the associated spider veins from reappearing.
Why Choose Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy may be the ideal treatment if you want to improve the appearance of your legs by erasing unsightly spider and reticular veins. Although we cannot guarantee that all treated veins will completely disappear, they will be significantly lighter if they don’t disappear completely.
Recover With Little Downtime
Immediately after your sclerotherapy treatment you can stand up and start walking around. You will leave the clinic with a compression wrap around the treated area. For best results you should start wearing compression stockings immediately and continuously during the first 48 hours after treatment. During the following 2 weeks you can switch to wearing them in the daytime only. In many cases, you can expect to return to your usual activities on the same day as your treatment with only a few restrictions. It’s probably best to avoid overexertion and strenuous exercises for 2 weeks after treatment to allow your leg(s) time to heal. Mild discomfort and bruising should resolve within 2 to 6 weeks.
Expect Minimal Complications
Risks of the procedure are minimal with only slight bruising in the area of injection or raised red bumps that resolve without treatment. Sometimes the area of treatment can look slightly worse before looking better—this is to be expected and is normal. Some hyperpigmentation can occur but will usually resolve within 6 months. Once the treated veins have collapsed, they shouldn’t come back provided you’ve treated the feeder veins as well. This doesn’t always ensure that new spider veins won’t form.
During your treatment, you may feel mild stinging or muscle cramping at the injection site, but these resolve once the treatment is complete.
Are you a good candidate?
If you have any of the following symptoms, you may need a more thorough medical evaluation from your primary care provider prior to considering sclerotherapy, as they may be signs of more serious venous compromise:
- Burning
- Swelling
- Restlessness
- Fatigue
- Itching
- Leg cramps
Long Lasting Results
The appearance of your treated spider veins noticeably fades within 4 to 6 weeks after your treatment. For complete resolution and optimal results you may need additional time and treatment. Once treatment has eliminated the structural integrity of the affected veins and with compliance, they shouldn’t come back. You can enjoy long-lasting results with healthier-looking, noticeably smoother legs.
Schedule today!
We would love to set up your free consultation! During the appointment, we will review your medical history, medications, and do a complete physical exam to see if you’re an appropriate candidate. If everything looks good, we’ll schedule an appointment to begin the process. One area will be treated per session, starting at the highest point of concern on one leg. A few sessions may be needed depending on the size of the treatment area or the number of areas to be treated. A personalized plan will be developed for you during the initial consultation.
